Episode 1 - Heirs Of The Elements



Plot Summary

In the beginning the story picks up with Jake Stryker, the person destined to be the fire elemental, going about his daily life. One day on his way home, he is ambushed by a large group of local thugs, who demand that he hand over his valuables. Jake refuses, and a fight soon breaks out. In his anger, Jake manages to set alight the clothes of the group leader with a flaming fist. Jake is alarmed and confused, and after he gets home, he tries to make fire again and learns that he can create fire at will. After a while, he gets contacted by someone named Chris Angelus, who tells him to come to america and meet him immediately, so they can discuss their abilities. Jake doesn't know how Chris found out about any of this, and heads of to America.

Upon his arrival, he discovers that Chris can wield the element of Air. He also discovers that Chris has another ability - Empathy, The ability to sense peoples presence and emotion, which is also strongly linked with people with similar extraordinary abilities. Chris tells Jake that he has been having dreams about a mysterious place - The Temple of Elements. He believes that the answers to everything that is going on lies there. On their way, they try to find another elemental who chris can sense nearby. They follow Chris' directions to where she is hiding and discover three people hunting for her. They get spotted, and one of them - who has the ability to wield electricity - throws an energy ball at them. He misses, and Jake throws a fireball back at them, confused and shocked by this response, the electric elemental grabs his associates and teleports them away. They find the girl, called Erin, and tell her about her powers. Together the trio head off to where Chris believes the Temple Of Elements lies. Chris explains that that his parents were killed by someone who had powers much like theirs, but the power over the element of the earth. He thinks that it was one of the people they saw who was after Erin.

After reading some of the books that lie in the temple, they discover that Jake has the ability to move objects with his mind, and that Erin has the ability to have visions. They also learn that the Earth Elemental has psychic abilities. On top of this second ability, they learn that they have unique abilities which are derived from their powers. For example, Jake can regulate his body temperature and not be burnt by fire if he so wishes. Erin can breath underwater if she wants.

After they do a bit of research, they discover that the man who killed both Chris & Erin's parents is a man named Morgan Slade. Slade is a very welathy man, who has made sucessfull businesses in both the mining & Genetic Engineering industries. The trio conclude that he is up to something. But what is he up to and why?

They eventually decide to head off to Slades private facility in the suburbs and poke around. Upon their arrival they notice that he is running some bizarre genetic experiments, and is in possesion of a large stockpile of weapons. They steal a bomb from the stockpile, intending to destroy the facility, and carry on until they run into Slade. He explains to them why he killed their parents, and why he must kill them now, as well as a bit about the history of the elementals, and his plans of world domination. Jake tells them to plant the bomb, set the timer & get clear of the base, whether they think he's out or not. Jake then distracts slade by having a sword fight with him. Both of them use their powers to attack each other as well, but the battle ends when Slade brings part of the ceiling crashing down on Jake, trapping his legs under the rubble.

Slade lectures Jake on how he is way out of his depth, and cuts off a bit of Jakes hair with a knife saying "You wont be needing that." Slade leaves the building and as the timer creeps down, Jake tries to escape. With a few seconds left, he frees himself, starts running, then stops and says "Oh no." The building then blows up and a pillar of red light shoots up into the sky. Chris and Erin are upset because they think they just blew Jake up. They start heading back to the Temple of Elements, and book 1 ends.
